Ramona Gonzalez, aka Nite Jewel is an LA based songwriter/composer who crafts a special brand of ethereal alt-disco tunes. “Am I Real?” deviates from her typical sound with a very 80’s new wave ballad vibe. Haunting and minimal, it’ll stick with you.

Nite Jewel – Am I Real

This new Four Tet remix of Jon Hopkin’s “Vessel” manages to give me chills for 7 minutes straight each time I listen to it. It starts off all doom and gloom but slowly pulls you into a magical fantasy land filled with twinkling pianos, warm strings, and bubbling synths.

Jon Hopkins – Vessel (Four Tet Remix)

A totally solid record by Mr. Oizo has got my attention (or lack thereof) for every one of these short songs on “Lambs Anger”. While most of the songs are based around a tight hook and that alone, experimentation keeps it fun and listenable but at the same time acknowledging that song is based around one riff therein; keeping it short and to the point. I compare it to a 45 minute meandering of the French nightclub radio stations (see the moments of jumpy skippyness between songs). My choice select is “Positif”. Get the rest of the album “ici” (a steal for 18 songs at $6.99).

Mr. Oizo – Positif

A classic tune from 90’s dance trio Awesome 3. This version of the track was pulled from the recent (and totally kick-ass) XLR8R Podcast by Moby featuring all old school rave tracks. Where were you in ‘92? I was 8 years old.

Awesome 3 – Don’t Go

Deepak Mantena writes electro music for nonthreatening crazy people. Or at the very least he is a nonthreatening crazy man. This song, like the rest of West Coast, is a frenzied collage of soothing paces, jarring melodies, and very danceable hooks. It’s like channel surfing on you’re couch and flying on a Persian carpet all at once. It is exactly like that.

Junk Culture – Daydream on Olea

If you haven’t noticed recently, the summer is upon us which means one thing – progressive house and trance music is back in rotation. This particular track from Welsh DJ and producer Sasha has been a favorite of mine for years for its epic buildup and sustained energy. Kind of makes me want to take a weekend trip to Ibiza sometime soon …

Sasha – Baja

This song unfolds so well. The off-putting, awkward, pet-shop boys vocals sits on top of a just barely there beat, and takes its sweet time to open up into the jam that follows. It’s the minimalism that Glass Ghost gets that makes this song such a gem.

I highly recommend listening to more.

This Floating Points jam has been a long time coming. Back in January I heard “Vacuum Boogie” blasting at Love NYC and instantly fell in love. This kind of stuff makes me think to myself, “why the hell don’t more DJs spin this?”. Guaranteed to make even the biggest square get down. Go ahead and turn up the bass.

I know what you’re thinking – Fergie? Seriously? Hold up… my man Treasure Fingers has remixed the original to make it not only listenable— but also really, really slick. Trust me on this one.

Boston’s Bad Rabbits are blowing up right now. They sound like they should have been on TMNT 2: The Secret of the Ooze’s soundtrack – in a good way. Their new-jack swing and punk inspired sound makes me feel like I should be doing some side-to-side dance in a sportcoat that’s way too big for me.
